Veronika "Ronnie" Lenzi

Photographer Making a Difference in Cyclist's Lives

Veronika Lenzi, Petaluma, CA photographer found her passion for cycling in 2001 when she saw the tail end of a stage of a race she had never heard of, The Tour "Day" France (quoting one of her favorite commentators and former racer, Bob Roll). In 2002, she watched each stage and Lance became her hero. The last day of the Tour that same year, she saw an advertisement for the Chris Carmichael TDF training camp and she immediately called to try to get a spot for her and husband in the 2003 camp. The camp was filled, but they said they couldn’t turn her down after listening to the message she left, "Please let me in the camp, all I want to do is touch Lance Armstrong's 'Ass'".

While in France she found a new love for cycling and cyclists. While attending the camp she met Noel Dejonckheere (and his wife Els) Director of the USA Cycling National Development Team and who run "The Belgium House" as it’s known. She expressed her desire to give back to the sport and help a young up and coming cycling that may be in need of financial support. One year later they contacted her with a name of a young man, who happened to live right down the street, his name is Sterling Magnell. Sterling eventually moved in with Veronika and her husband and their commitment to helping a cyclist grew exponentially, completely supporting not only his racing career but helping him attend the Academy of Art in S.F. and eventually moving him to L.A. to pursue a career in track. He currently races with Rock Racing. She and her husband also sponsor Steven Cozza – Garmin Slipstream Sports Professional Cycling Team.

In 2006, she was contracted to photograph The Toyota-United Professional Cycling Team, with one of her pictures published in VeloNews and two others published in Bicycling Magazine. You can also see her photos in our very own local Bike Monkey magazine and hanging in the Wine Emporium in Sebastopol.

She has opened her house to many young cyclists (and non cyclists), and hopes that she and her husband can make a difference in the life of a cyclist, young or old. She is currently one of the managers of the Santa Rosa based Team NorCal Bike Sport and will be following each stage of this years Tour of California. Her house is filled with Lance Armstrong photos and her one dream is to some day meet him, or get close enough to take a picture of him herself. She say’s she feels like a "Beetles fan", if she ever meets him, she say’s she’ll probably stand there, shake, and start to cry!

Veronika rides herself, doing 7 centuries her first year on a bike and completing the Death Ride in 2000. Oh, yeah, she was born and raised in the circus and traveled with her parents until she was 21. Check out Veronika's Fabulous Photos at www.veronikalenzi.com.
